Lee Dong-Gwi
Abstract
This study empirically examined how gratitude attitude and gratitude expression affect romantic relationship satisfaction as well as the mediating effects of self-compassion and perceived social support in these processes. A sample of 334 undergraduate students from Seoul were recruited to complete an online survey on gratitude attitude, gratitude expression, self-compassion, perceived social support, and romantic relationship satisfaction. The final sample included 173 undergraduates (69 males, 104 females) who were in romantic relationships at the time of the survey. The results revealed significant positive correlations between gratitude attitude, gratitude expression, self-compassion, perceived social support, and romantic relationship satisfaction. Additionally, as hypothesized, gratitude attitude significantly enhanced romantic relationship satisfaction by increasing self-compassion, while gratitude expression significantly increased romantic relationship satisfaction by boosting one's perceived social support. The implications and limitations of this study and recommendations for future research are discussed.
